Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) has announced its “HomEComing 2023” schedule that includes a parade, a Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and the Chancellor’s Welcome Reception. The weeklong cascade of events is themed, “Vikings Unleashed: A Different World.”
The week begins, Sept. 24, with the official coronation of Mister and Miss ECSU and the official Homecoming Countdown.
ECSU Associate Vice Chancellor of Student, Alumni and Constituent Engagement and Deputy Chief Kevin Wade, Ed.D., is the university’s homecoming chairperson. He described the week’s line up as having touchpoints for everyone. This year's student-facing events include Showtime at the Viking Ship, an employee and student talent show and a Pre-Dawn Silent Headphone Party. Additionally, the Office of Alumni Relations and Engagement and the National Alumni Association, Inc. (NAA) are hosting various experiences for alums of all ages. The ECSU Community Connections Performance and Lecture Series, Homecoming Edition, is scheduled for 8 p.m., Sept. 28 with special guests.
New offerings this year include a Tones of Melanin ECSU merchandise bundle and free parade registration for high school bands. The parade, happening Sept. 30 rain or shine, has as its grand marshals the ECSU Women’s Basketball Team, who won their first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship last season.
